Specifics on the Gonstead Method

Chiropractic care has become common with over 1 million adjustments given world wide every day and licensed Doctors of Chiropractic in all 50 states. The procedures are safe, non-invasive and drug free, and complications are strinkingly rare.1

Dr. Postier of Postier Chiropractic in Manhattan specializes in the Gonstead method of Chiropractic care. This technique goes beyond simply adjusting your back, but is a thorough method for analyzing your spine and nervous system to find the root cause of pain and discomfort.2 The Gonstead method was created by Clarance Gonstead, who graduated from the Palmer School of Chiropractic and Infirmary in 1923. Gonstead was credited with many innovations in Chiropractic, developing better tools and instruments to assist him in pinpointing nerve damage and mastering the art of the perfect spinal adjustment.3

When you visit Postier Chiropractic, Dr. Postier will conduct a nervous assessment using a heat sensing device to determine the exact areas of nerve pressure. The next step is then to check for swelling, tenderness, tight muscles and your spine mobility. X-rays are also incorporated to compare with Dr. Postier’s exam findings to give the most specific adjustments possible.2

When your vertebrae become tilted or rotated out of their ideal position, there can be dramatic injuries to your body. Whether from years of constant pressure or a traumatic event, these misalignments can cause the vertebrae to separate, swell or protrude (a slipped, herniated or ruptured disc).4 These physical conditions can cause subluxations, or the pinching or compressing of the nerves that run through a specific area in your spine, can cause you to experience pain, discomfort, decreased mobility and many other symptoms that can go unnoticed for years after they begin.5

The ability to recognize and correct misalignments is a pillar of the Gonstead method. Misaligned vertebrae in the spine are easily recognized, but problems in the lower portions of the spine are harder to find. If lower spine problems exist, the body tries to compensate and keep itself upright, often causing upper vertebra to slip.4

According to the Gonstead Clinical Studies Society, “If just the top misaligned vertebra was adjusted, in cases where additional vertebrae are misaligned, only limited relief could result. This would not be getting to the source of the trouble. For complete and lasting results, all of the misaligned vertebrae must be identified and then a program can be initiated to restore them to their normal position.“

Because each and every patient is different, Dr. Postier was driven to pursue the Gonstead method because of its specificity in the analysis and adjustment of the spine and it’s scientific approach, guaranteeing the best results for those who visit his clinic.6
